| We want to address the concerns circulating about the police presence at last Saturday’s Batshit Club. We firmly stand against police presence at clubs, However, we also want to clarify that what happened was a routine check-in, similar to what happens at other clubs, and not the targeted raid some have described. When the police arrived, we informed them that the event was a private, members-only club, and we monitored them. They did a brief walkthrough, as they do in most venues and clubs and left shortly after. There was nothing unusual about this check-in compared to others we’ve seen before at our previous clubs or other clubs. Our experience—and the legal advice we’ve received—suggests that the best approach in these situations is to let them conduct their routine check without disruption. There was nothing illegal happening at Batshit, and causing unnecessary panic could have made the situation worse for everyone. The atmosphere at the club remained calm, and from what we observed, most attendees didn’t feel that this visit was different from other standard police checks. Some concerns have been raised about filming. We want to clarify that we are not aware of any officers recording inside the club. We closely monitored their presence, and we did not see cameras being used. That said,you might know that body cameras are always on but only save footage if actively recording. When recording, the camera makes a loud sound, and the light turns red. Footage is usually stored for two months. If recorded , you have the right to: Ask if you were filmed – Police must answer truthfully. Request deletion – If the footage isn’t needed for law enforcement, they must delete or restrict access. Appeal a refusal – A judge can review the decision. File a complaint – IMY can investigate and fine the police for illegal surveillance.
